On having submitted my PhD-thesis
26.2 miles. Better known as 42,195 m. After completing the scientific marathon a PhD is, I have so many wonderful people to thank!
At last I have submitted my thesis:
Validations of research methods for urinary incontinence in women
Scored questionnaires in clinical practice and epidemiological research
It feels great!
My next goal is Oslo Marathon. 26 SEP 2010.
Should we use social media at the University?
Should we use social media at all? Is it just another way of wasting time?
So – How do I finalize my PhD?
After sending my beloved partner and her children off by train to Easter Holiday at Haugastøl, I thought: “Now is at last the time for me to finalize my PhD! I’ve been granted five days to finish off the last tidbits.
Strategy?
I ran 10 km first. Worked out with two 5k thingies I bought on New Year’s Eve, and showered. Then prepared sushi with Salma laks/salmon from Bømlo. Raw fish sprinkled with sesame seeds, wasabi and soy sauce. Green tea. Power!
Then Mozart’s “Queen of the night” with smashing Sumi Jo. And then lots of Queen oldies.
Happy Easter!
I am prepared for the end of my PhD!
And off we go!
On environmental strategies
I thought I was smart when I copied the address labels in order to recirculate the toner cartridges at work – but the post office didn’t accept this environmental strategy! My colleagues hadn’t done this before, so I decided to collect them and put them in their cases, tape onto these boxes prepaid and copies of prepaid addresses to HP somewhere in Sweden. But- the post office refused to send them…. And I had collected 3 enormous black plastic bags with toner cartridges!
What will life be like after the PhD?
I really don’t know… but hopefully in short time, after Easter… I hope I’ll be able to finalize my PhD. Meaning that that I wil submit it to the Faculty, and then I cannot change it, no more editing. How wonderful! Game over! If the committee accepts it then….
Validations of research methods for urinary incontinence in women.
Scored questionnaires in clinical practice and epidemiological research
1 Aims of the two studies in this thesis
The scope of this thesis has been narrowed to investigate the performance of scored questionnaires in clinical and research settings. The two studies presented in this thesis use different validation strategies for improving research methods and evaluations of clinical practice.
1.1 Study I
How does the DIS perform in primary and secondary health care settings? What is the predictive value of the DIS compared with a clinical diagnosis of UI?
1.2 Study II
Is it possible to use the World Wide Web to recruit people to epidemiological studies of UI? What is the correlation between two different severity indexes for UI? Is it possible to define a four-level severity scale for the ICIQ-UI-SF using the ISI as a gold standard?
